Ian and Wendy Hollick purchased
a piece of grazing land on the southern end of the Coonawarra district
of South Australia in 1974, one of the original allocations in the
Coonawarra Fruit Colony which John Riddoch founded in 1890. Since
1975, the Hollicks have progressively planted Cabernet Sauvignon,
Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. In
1987 they purchased the "Wilgha" vineyard which now features
Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Petit Verdot, and very recently
Tempranillo and Barbera. In 1998 the first vines were planted on
the Hollick Red Ridge vineyard at Wrattonbully, 50 kilometres north
of Coonawarra. Shiraz, Tempranillo and Sangiovese from this vineyard
further enhance their famous range of stylish and food friendly
wines. In 2002, the Hollicks opened a new cellar door sales area
and the "Upstairs at Hollick" restaurant.
