Elderton was the middle name of Samuel
Tolley, who established the vineyard in the Barossa Valley, which
was originally planted around 1901. During the wine glut of the
late 1970's, the vineyard was placed on the market and was purchased
by the Ashmead family who worked tirelessly to bring it back to
it's original glory. With no established local wineries interested
in purchasing the grapes from the old vines, The Elderton label
was born in 1982. From this time, Elderton Wines have established
a reputation for elegant whites and big, bold and robust reds including
the iconic "Command Shiraz" that continue to gain huge
recognition worldwide.
