In 1987 the De Bortoli family purchased a winery and vineyard in the Yarra Valley to produce a new premium wine brand. In 1989 third generation wine family member Leanne De Bortoli and her winemaker husband Steve Webber were given the challenge of launching the new De Bortoli wine brand. The couple set about the task with enthusiasm and in just over a decade the results have been impressive. Not only did they launch the very successful Yarra Valley range which includes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Shiraz Viognier but an award winning restaurant as well. Steve, a nominee for Winemaker of the Year in 2004, is passionate about quality and his wines keep getting better as his knowledge of the region increases. As he says, "It takes a long time to understand a region and the viticulture and winemaking needed to make high quality wine."
